A day here
A day in every room
Each room keeps this rhythm at its own pace, from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm.
- Early morning
Step 1: Arrival
A teacher meets each child at the room door, and you sign your child in at the front desk.
- Early morning
Step 2: Breakfast
Cooked in our kitchen and eaten together: congee or oatmeal, eggs and fruit.
- Mid-morning
Step 3: Circle and play
A song, a look at the day, then blocks, paint, books and the pretend kitchen, chosen for each age.
- Late morning
Step 4: Outdoor play
The fenced yard, when the weather allows. Each room takes its turn on the climber.
- Midday
Step 5: Lunch
Children eat family style at low tables: rice or noodles, a vegetable and eggs, tofu, fish or chicken, then fruit.
- Early afternoon
Step 6: Rest
Infants sleep on their backs, in their own cribs, with nothing else in the crib. Older children rest on cots.
- Mid-afternoon
Step 7: Story time
Jingyi reads a picture book in English and then one in Mandarin. Children listen, point and join in the songs.
- Until closing
Step 8: Pickup
A teacher hands each child to you at the room door, with a word about the day.
Story time
A picture book in English, then in Mandarin
Jingyi reads to the Twos and the Threes every afternoon.
The books are the same kind of books on any shelf: animals, meals, a rainy day. Children don't have to speak Mandarin to enjoy them, and families who speak it at home hear it at school too.
English first, then Mandarin
Songs to join in
Picture books children can reach on low shelves
